Three-Family Conversion and Renovation
Boston, MA

A typical triple-decker in the Roxbury neighborhood of Boston provided the framework for this conversion to a two-family, a dramatic renovation combining two floor-through apartments into one unit.

The floor structure of the former bow-front living rooms on the first and second floors was removed, creating a double-height space containing a new spiral stair and a second floor balcony reading alcove. The walls of the small, first floor rooms were opened up or eliminated to create a spacious flow between the new stair hall, an open living-dining room, and the redesigned kitchen. New sliding glass doors and a small deck off the dining room connect the first floor living space to the home’s side garden, allowing easy access for the owner, an avid gardener.
